Do You Have The "Right" Attitude for Success?

Do You Have The "Right" Attitude for Success?
By Aida J Ingram

Why You Need To Have A No Matter What Attitude

I just came back from an amazing day at Women 2.0 PitchNYC. It was full of unbelievable stories about what is possible and what you can do if you are willing to keep working on your goals. I was inspired, and I came back with a lot on my mind. It takes hard work, and guts to be a business owner as I am sure many of you already know. You have to be willing to get your hands dirty, and you must work hard, but you also need something else.

As I listened to all of the women speak I noticed a trend, there was just a little something special about each and every one of them. Their businesses were all very different, some of them were tech companies, some had products, and others had services, the one thing that was true about all of them was that they all had what I like to call a "No Matter What" Attitude. Let me be clear, that doesn't mean that you are like Cruela from 101 Dalmations, but it does mean that you have made a decision in your mind to hold onto your dream and keep working until you reach it. It means being willing to tweak your idea to death so that you can fix what wrong, and so you can keep moving into the right direction.

When you are in business for yourself, there are days when you may not feel like getting out of bed. There are days when you were sure you had that deal, and then they decide to go to someone else. There are days when you open up your bank account and wonder if it is all worth it. The "No Matter What" Attitude is a pronouncement, it is your commitment to keep going even when things get a little rough. It is that glimmer of hope, and it is the understanding that you have a life giving, and life changing mission and goal. A "No Matter What" Attitude is important because it keeps you in the game when you feel like giving up. It gets you out of bed one more day, and makes you remember why you are doing all of this in the first place. It is your daily reminder that no matter what it looks like, and what today may bring you need to be willing to keep your head in the game. It is also a reminder that what you are building, although it hasn't come together yet, is worth all your time and effort.

The "No Matter What" Attitude helps you remember that what you are doing is BIGGER THAN YOU. It is what helps you remember that there is someone out there who is watching you, they are cheering for you and with every new step you take, they believe that if you can do it, they can do it too. As I sat in that room yesterday, and listened to story after story, I was reminded of the possibilities. There is nothing like watching your dreams go from vision, to implementation, to tangible products, and services. The difference between making the team and staying at home is resilience, you have to be willing to do what it takes to make it. You have to be willing to get up early, and work late. You have to be willing to see things through to the end, even though at times you will feel like giving up and throwing in the towel.

Today, I don't know what you are building or even how you managed to stay focused on your goals and dreams. What I do know is that your dream is important to many. Jump out of bed this morning, put on your game jersey and your boxing gloves. Be willing to work harder and more diligently than you did yesterday. In the back of your mind carry a new vision, and make sure you remember that you hold the torch, and it is your efforts that keep it going. The thing that is just a vision or an idea today hold it, cultivate it, work on it every day, give it 100%, so that you may hand it off to the next generation in the form of an amazing business, an inspirational story, an unbelievable opportunity, or proof that if you are willing to keep going the sky is the limit.
